My POPS Teacher is your – Personal Online Problem Solver!

My POPS Teacher can assist Afrikaans or English speaking students by helping them improve their understanding of the course material and problem-solving abilities. This service is for those not having access to tutors or exotic and expensive online teaching vehicles. A very useful tool to utilise now with the upcoming 2020 exams!

The CAPS curriculum evaluates learners’ knowledge and understanding of Physical Sciences (Physics and Chemistry) by having the learners answer questions in tests and exam papers. Learners become aware of a lacking understanding when they struggle to answer the questions correctly – either when preparing for a test or exam or once looking at their marked tests / exams or comparing their own efforts with a memorandum.

Objective of My POPS Teacher:

To help learners gain an understanding of the concept leading to solving a problem / answering a question correctly.

How is the objective addressed?

1. A learner identifies a specific question or problem and writes it down on a sheet of paper (or copies and pastes it on a sheet).

2. The learner attempts to answer the question or solve the problem but realises that he / she has a challenge with it.

3. The learner describes the challenge with answering the question or solving the problem by writing it down in words a very important step in the process.

4. The learner photographs (with a mobile phone) the sheet having items 1. to 3. on it and sends the photo to My POPS Teacher by *WhatsApp.

5. My POPS Teacher analyses the WhatsApp message, identifies what understanding by the learner is lacking, writes it down and uses the ‘missing’ (but now identified) knowledge to complete the question or solve the problem.

6. My POPS Teacher in turn photographs the answer sheet and sends it back within 24 hours to the learner by WhatsApp. The learner is free to ask further questions if the explanation was not clear.

Why is My POPS Teacher Free?

Recent retirement created the opportunity for My POPS Teacher to return to his first love after a career spanning from secondary and high education to the chemical industry. He and his wife for almost 10 years fostered children from a remote community which demonstrates their desire to help those who normally would not be in an environment conducive to good education. As a happy coincidence the family of My POPS Teacher calls him ‘Pops’…
